Expert mobile app

Role: lead designer

Situation

Atheneum, a platform that connects organisations with global experts, faced challenges in improving the expert application process via mobile devices.

Task

Our goal was to streamline the application process and make it easier for experts to apply for projects on mobile, introducing a dedicated app to address the usability issues

Project success

🎯 App released and available in stores.

🎯 Faster application process for users (3 min average on app vs 6 min average on web).

🎯 Growing user base, 10,000 user in first 6 months.

Action

I collaborated with the project manager to map the process and created wireframes in Figma to prototype the app. I led early user testing sessions to validate key user journeys and gather feedback.

Result

The app received positive feedback, especially for its navigation and improvements to the availability input method. A controlled release showed that users found the mobile process easier than the web, though some features required further refinement, like screening questions and calendar integration.

  • "I find the whole experience more user friendly compared to the website, mainly as it's more practical and I can apply to projects whilst on the move"

    User test participant

Outcome

Overall the initial release of the app was a success, with a growing user base and users able to successfully locate and apply to projects in the app.

Personal highlights

  • Leading the entire design process from start to finish.

  • Conducting user tests in both early and later stages of the project with users from North and Central America and Europe.

  • learning the importance of QA testing proposed features as much as possible to ensure they meet requirements.

Note: this case study follows the STAR framework and is intentionally concise to provide a brief overview of the project. If you'd like to learn more, please feel free to reach out!
